I get a lot of questions from people about how they should go about detoxing mercury from their bodies. Here is a quick lsit of things to do.

1) Do a Quicksilvers heavy metal test. Measures blood, urine and saliva. I have these kits in my office for you to take to a lab. Cost is @ $300.

2) Open up the routes of elimination with specific supplements. Kidney and liver important.

3) Go slow. If it took a long time to build up then take your time in removing it. Mercury can be displaced from deep tissues and end up going to the brain and cause dizzines, vertigo.

4) Retest again with Quicksilver. Twice a year is good.

5) If you have metal fillings, have them removed early after you have supplimented well. Protect the brain by eating healthy fats and staying away from refined carbohydrates. Especially bread!  Important to have mercury removed safely by the dentist.

In order to burn fat aerobically, remember to use the ABCs of supplements. They are:

A=Alpha Lipoic Acid

B=Vitamins B1, B2, B3

C=L-Carnatine, CoQ10, Chromium

When exercising, keep your heart rate around 180bpm minus your age to stay in the aerobic zone. Heart rate monitors are great for this. I use a Polar brand to train with.

MTHFR is an enzyme responsible for converting 5,10 methylenetetrahydyrofolate to the product 5-methyltetrahydrofolate-it is invovled in the metabolism of folate and homocysteine. The product of the reaction catalyzed by MTHFR coverts homocysteine (a potentially toxic amino acid) to methionine (a useful and necessary amino acid).

Why is this important?

Certain mutations in this gene can lead to increased homocysteine levels especially when folate is low. High homocysteine is a risk factor for heart and vascular disease.

People with this gene mutation should not be taking folic acid supplements or food with folic acid enriched because they cannot metabolize it. They need L methyl folate instead. In fact methylation is a challenge for these people and methylation is very important for detoxing heavy metals.

Spectracell has an excellent test for the MTHFR genotype so that you can know if methylation is a challenge and know if you should not be taking folic acid.

I also recommend you visit the website MTHFR.net for excellent information on this subject.

Spirochetes are a major source for inflammation in your mouth and body which are commonly found in the biofilm surrounding the teeth. At the Bell Center a special microscope is used to detect these microscopic invaders of poor health when a dental cleaning or exam is performed. Dr Bell can assess your health and any potentials for gum disease as well as heart disease and other major health risks due to inflammation caused by spirochetes. There sre some youtube videos of spirochetes online that will help patients understand what they are. Lyme disease and syphillis are two common diseases caused by spirochetes. So if you have spirochetes in your mouth you definitely want to treat them.

Boyd Haley has a good youtube presentation on apolipoprotein E and its affect on mercury toxicity. I recommend my patients with mercury fillings get tested for their ApoE genotype with a blood test from Spectracell.
